Creating Connections Between People with Blood Cancer and Blood Disorders

Supporters at two of our cup finals in March and April are invited to find out more about Anthony Nolan, a charity who make life-saving connections between people with blood cancer and blood disorders.

The Essex County FA Youth Forum are excited to be working with Anthony Nolan and a special webinar took place on Monday 24th February to invite club and league ‘ambassadors’ to come forward as part of a project to help football make a positive difference. The incredible people who donate their stem cells through Anthony Nolan are saving lives right now.

A new project has been set-up to raise awareness of the stem cell register by recruiting ambassadors who will, in turn, be able to run recruitment events and help the charity reach their aim of 1 million people on the stem cell register (which currently has 900,000 individuals). There will be opportunity to become a donor on the evening of both the following finals with a simple swab test:

BBC Essex Senior Cup
Canvey Island vs Hornchurch
Tuesday 18th March 2025, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Colchester United FC

BBC Essex Women’s Cup
Billericay Town vs Hashtag United
Thursday 10th April 2025, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Colchester United FC

Lana Gillard, Essex County FA Football Development Officer, explained: “We are exciting to welcome Anthony Nolan to our flagship cup final events to help raise awareness of the stem cell register with our football family. Our Youth Forum are championing the charity to shine a light on how young people can help save a life. Football can make a massive difference on and off the pitch.”

You can follow the Essex County FA Youth Forum on Instagram at @essexfayouthforum for updates on the project, and further opportunities for young people aged 15-24. Details are also shared via this link, and on our social media feeds.
