Big Football Day kicked off England's FIFA Women's World Cup Campaign
On Saturday clubs across the County celebrated the Lionesses kicking off their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 campaign, by hosting Big Football Day Events.
One of the clubs in Essex who hosted an event was Frenford & MSA WFC, who held an event that included activities for all. The event saw a watch-a-long for the Lionesses opening game against Haiti, which saw a Georgia Stanway penalty seal a victory for England.
The event also included a Wildcats taster and festival, giving young girls the opportunity to imitate their hero’s playing down under in Australia.
A ‘Stepping Over the Sidelines’ workshop was also held at Frenford’s event, aiming to inspire the next generation of female coaches in the game.
Yasmin from Frenford spoke about the success of the event. “It was really great to see so many girls trying football for the first time with our wildcat taster sessions, clubs bringing down teams who were getting to experience playing against other teams for the first time in our wildcat and squad girls festival.”
“The girls really enjoyed themselves it was such an amazing experience for them and a day they will remember.”
Sharon Brownlie, Regional Talent Manager at the FA, was also present at the event. “The event was about bringing the community together to come and support the Lionesses in Australia and then support their legacy with taster sessions, festivals and soccercise to ensure everyone in the community knows there is a space for them to play, coach and be a vital and important part of the football community in Essex.”
