BBC Essex Women's Cup Quarter-Final Draw
Several intriguing ties were generated when the draw for the BBC Essex Women’s Cup was made live on air on Wednesday 20th November, including a derby match between the AFC Basildon First and Development Teams.
Leigh Ramblers Manager Howard Mackler was a Special Guest at the radio station’s Chelmsford studios, from where first news was shared of the pairings for the last eight. Collier Row Tigers host Billericay Town (Development) or Hutton, Harlow Town welcome Billericay Town and Bowers & Pitsea entertain Mackler’s Ramblers in the other fixtures.
At this stage four seeded clubs were added to the mix, including Harlow and Billericay. Harlow are leading the Eastern Region Women’s League Premier Division, while opponents Billericay are competing for Women’s National League Division One South-East promotion.
The away sides were pulled out by BBC Essex’s Nick Alliker and he was responsible for Billericay’s Development Team, or Hutton, travelling to Collier Row, who are currently top of the Essex County Women’s League Premier Division.
AFC Basildon (Development) won 3-1 away at Silver End United in the Third Round, which has earned them a ‘home’ tie against their club’s First Team, one of two Essex representatives in the FA Women’s National League. Elsewhere Bowers, winners of the Essex Women’s Trophy last season, meet Leigh, a team going well in Division One South of the Eastern Region League.
