Boreham Village Pick Up Fair Play Award
Boreham Village Under 15s from Chelmsford were presented with a Fair Play Award by Essex County FA Welfare Officer Helen Hever before a recent Blackwa
Earlier in the year, nominations were made in three categories - Youth, Saturday and Sunday clubs - and a specially-formed judging panel assessed every submission using a structured set of criteria. These included a team’s disciplinary record, their sportsmanship marks and any supporting statement provided by the nominee who put them forward. A number of teams were presented with trophies at July’s Essex County FA Awards Evening.
In the Boys’ Under 12s-18s Category, Boreham were recognised partly for the excellent sportsmanship they showed around the time of last season’s League Cup Final. Their opponents couldn’t fulfil the original date set for the match but, instead of taking the option of automatically qualifying as winners, all of the team agreed for the date to be rearranged in order for the opposition to get a fair chance of winning the trophy.
FA guidelines highlight that everyone connected with football should show an understanding of, and respect for, the Laws of the Game as well as supporting the belief that it should be played in a positive way. Sporting behaviour towards others should be seen as paramount, both on and off the field, including players, officials or spectators, and irrespective of results. Other winners of 2016 awards included:
Springfield Girls Under 11s (Girls’ Under 7s-11s Category): Springfield achieved perfect scores for sportsmanship and respect across the whole of the 2015/16 season. They have been in the Essex County Girls’ League for two seasons and are constantly praised for their attitude. They take an active part in league development festivals and have even hosted events. Their disciplinary record is impeccable.
Hutton Under 18s (Girls’ Under 12s-18s Category): Hutton have received excellent scores for sportsmanship and respect across the whole of the 2015/16 season. They have a new management team who have succeeded in getting these young players to respect the match officials as they came top of the sportsmanship marks for Essex & Suffolk Border League Division Two.
Epping Forest Falcons (Men’s Sunday Category): This new team in the Essex Sunday Corinthian League finished top of the sportsmanship table, receiving only one fine all season and with no cautions. This is a credit to the team in their first season in the league.
