Essex 4-1 Jersey (Women)

Four-Goal Jersey Victory for Essex Women

Essex 4-1 Jersey, Wednesday 12th February 2025, Kick-Off 8:00pm, Southern Counties Women’s Cup, Aveley FC.

Essex Women continued their strong form with an emphatic performance, securing a commanding 4-1 victory over their opponents at Aveley FC’s Parkside home.

The match featured standout moments, including a goal from in-form striker Laura Bunton, who netted her seventh goal in just six representative appearances. First-half strikes from Daisy Canny set Essex on their way to a dominant win, with second-half efforts from Olivia Harris, Bunton again and Molly Sherrin rounding off an excellent display.

With this fixture forming part of the Southern Counties Cup campaign, Essex’s result boosts their standing in the group. The match also saw key milestones for Lindsey Morgan and Charlotte Bryant, both celebrating their 20th appearances for the representative side. Their experience and leadership played a crucial role in Essex’s commanding performance.

Essex started brightly, immediately putting their opponents under pressure. Bunton was first to test the goalkeeper, forcing an early save before breaking the deadlock. A well-timed through ball found Canny in space, and she coolly slotted home to open the scoring. Essex nearly doubled their lead just before the half time interval when a well-struck free kick was flicked on by Morgan, crashing against the crossbar.

Essex maintained their intensity into the second half. Harris did brilliantly to swivel and fire a shot past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner, and credit must go to Canny for her excellent work down the line to set up the goal.

Soon afterwards, Canny was at it again, proving a real menace to the defence. Using her blistering pace, she latched onto a loose ball and threaded a perfect pass through for Bunton to poke home, continuing her impressive form. The fourth goal was scored by Sherrin, who made an instant impact shortly after coming on. She found space out wide and fired a perfect strike past the keeper.

The visitors did manage to pull one back mid-way through the second half, but it proved only a Leah Morris consolation as Essex remained in control throughout. With momentum on their side, Essex will now turn their focus to their next fixture as they look to continue their impressive run.
