Grassroots Code Update

Let’s Make Football Better for Everyone

The Grassroots Code: Respect the Standard

Handy new resources are now available to help teams to understand and embrace England Football’s recently-launched ‘Grassroots Code’, where clubs across every league can sign-up to show they want to improve behaviour.

Created from conversations with grassroots clubs across the country, England Football and the Essex County FA hope participants will promote the code, which unites the game by driving positive ‘Standards of Behaviour’ everyone can get behind. Locally, we also provide #PlayYourPart Matchday Environment resources which display that good behaviour deserves everyone’s respect. The new Grassroots Code standards are detailed as follows:

* Enjoy the Game: We’re here to enjoy ourselves…win, lose or draw.
* Give Respect: We always treat others as we’d like to be treated.
* Be Inclusive: We embrace our differences…football is a game for everyone.
* Work Together: We’re a team, on and off the pitch.
* Play Safe: We all have a role in safeguarding children.

Essex County FA Safeguarding Manager, Helen Hever, explained: “A lot of very positive work is undertaken by volunteers to improve the environment of players. It’s vital for the good of the game that everyone accepts their responsibility in making football activity a great, inclusive and respectful environment for all who take part, ensuring the growth of the game.”
