County Cup Competitions Back Underway

The latter-stage draws of seven Essex County FA Cups have been made as the various adult and youth competitions approach the business end of the campa
Railway Academicals were the biggest winners in the Saturday Junior Cup Fourth Round when they recorded a 9-3 triumph over Harold Hill Reserves, and their reward is another home tie against ProKit UK Essex Olympian League opposition as they host May & Baker Eastbrook Community Reserves in the last eight, themselves 6-0 victors against Southend Sports.

Old Chelmsfordians Reserves won 5-0 away at Upshire Forest, and they will welcome Basildon Town Reserves in the Quarter-Finals, whilst Christchurch registered a minor shock when they knocked out Saturday Junior Trophy holders Flitch United, 1-0. They travel to Wormingford Wanderers, with Tiptree Heath vs Laindon Orient completing the draw.

In the Saturday Junior Trophy, Railway Academicals Reserves have also been handed a home tie, with L MAC Spartans the visitors on 28th January. May & Baker Eastbrook Community are another team to harbour hopes of a Cup and Trophy double, but their Under 21s will have to overcome an away assignment against Kenson.

Emeronians recorded an impressive 4-1 win against Sheering in the last 16 of the competition, and they will now host Pitsea Athletic, who edged out Nazeing. St Clere’s, whose Reserve Team were beaten finalists in 2012, round out the draw against Kitroom, who defeated Mayland Village by the odd goal in five in the last round.

The Sunday versions have reached the same stage, and Sunday Junior Cup holders Daen Ingas still have visions of repeating their 2016 triumph. They will host Hanningfield in the Quarter-Finals, whilst Sunday Junior Trophy holders Fox & Fiddler are also hopeful of consecutive triumphs as they take on Berry, in the Cup this term.

Kingswood enjoyed a 9-3 success against Ekco Zeds at the weekend, but they will be on the road in the last eight when they journey to Romford Elite, whilst Virtue, who booked their spot in the Quarter-Finals before Christmas, will host Old Chelmsfordians Reserves.

There were no less than 57 goals across the eight Sunday Junior Trophy Fourth Round ties, and the competing clubs will be hoping for just as much entertainment when the Quarter-Finals take place on 12th February. Pitsea Athletic ran in seven of those goals, and they will travel to A & A United at the next stage.

Laindon Orient netted five goals in their away win at Hornchurch Oakmont, and they make the trip to Barking & Dagenham Wanderers, who had an identical 5-1 victory against Wallis. Eastleigh Wanderers welcome Wormingford Wanderers and Marquis play host to Leigh United Reserves.

The Sunday Veterans Cup is even more advanced, and the Semi-Final draw has now taken place. Two-time champions Tag United are away to Staines United, who have won eight of their nine league matches to top the Southend Borough Combination Veterans Premier Division. Wheatleys will play Hullbridge Sports or Nicholas Colts in the other tie.

Two youth competitions have reached the Quarter-Final stage and, in the Cassels Under 16s Cup, there is still the prospect of a repeat of last season’s Rosser Under 15s Cup Final as protagonists Thurrock host Billericay Town and AFC Hornchurch take on Benfleet (Athletic).

There is an all-Eastern Junior Alliance tie between East Thurrock United and Brentwood Town, whilst Redbridge (Blues) await the winners of the outstanding tie involving Westhamians, Hullbridge Sports and Tiptree Jobserve (Blues).

Finally, in the Andrews Under 14s Cup, Concord Rangers are still in with a chance of avenging last season’s defeat to AFC Hornchurch. They make the short trip to Ekco Whitecaps (Reds) in the Quarter-Finals. Meanwhile Billericay Town tackle Braintree Town in an all-EJA clash.

Dagenham & Redbridge lost their Football League Academy status last summer, but their youth setup may receive a fillip in the form of Andrews Cup silverware. They host Wickford Town (South) in the last eight, whilst Harold Wood Cougars (Blacks) welcome Chelmsford City.
